My weekend... (Beware of the slight ranting!)

I've had a fairly hectic weekend and there wasn't a shortage of things to do in Southampton.

Friday, Tek One at Unit. I was quite excited about this seeing as many people have praised their live dubstep sets in the past. But i didn't stay long enough to experience their unique take on the genre. (this is where the ranting begins) I know recently dubstep raves attract a certain type of person and i am not going to discriminate in fear of a total backlash... But these types of people are seriously getting on my last nerve.

I've finally got used to the fact that if you stand at the front of the rave you WILL get pushed about. (i still don't agree with this seeing as i have probably been raving at the front when they were still in nappies) So i stood to the side just so i could see Tek One performing. I was just getting into the swing of things and thought "Wow my faith in Dubstep has been restored" Until some little twat decided to mosh into me... This resulted in me getting caught up in the madness and being punched in the face (by a boy) and didn't even get an apology! Seriously guys, if you want to mosh like that then go and see a metal gig or something. Stop tarnishing a good genre with stupid behaviour! Tbh if they did do that at a metal gig then they would probably be crushed into the floor! (i hope and pray)

So that night was cut pretty short due to the loss of feeling in my right cheek!

Saturday was Scratch Perverts at Audio... I saw the duo at Sanctuary festival this year and was so surprised at their set. They were diverse, exciting, experimental and just pure entertainment. Shame they were the total opposite the other night!

They began with some dubstep (standard) then followed with their trademark electro sounds. Me amongst others were expecting a bit of DnB and Hip hop to follow. But no, back to the dubstep, then a bit more electro, then back to the dubstep... Hmm brilliant! Someone else who has jumped on the bandwagon then! This reminded me of Breakage at Wax a few weeks ago. The first time he played he absolutely tore the roof off but his more recent set was just disappointing. I'm not trying to insult their talents as producers and DJ's because they are amazing! However please stick to your roots, thats why people loved you in the first place!

Anyway... I would like to end on a good note from the other night! And that good note is DJ Gerra! Having seen many of his sets since being in Southampton he has always been consistently good! Saturday night was something else though! Although he was a warm up DJ he definitely stole the show with his excellent tune selection ranging from jungle to dubstep to hip hop and everything else in between... He is definitely one to watch next year!
